Don King Days
Big Horn, Wyoming
Celebrating its 37th year in 2025, Don King Days serves as the grand finale of Sheridan’s equestrian season. Established in 1989 to honor world-renowned saddle maker and King’s Saddlery founder Don King, the event captures an "unhurried" Old West atmosphere that few modern rodeos can rival.
The Equestrian Triple Threat
-
Polo: This is the Big Horn Polo Club’s premier tournament, drawing international players to compete for the championship buckle. The action culminates Monday with the prestigious Don King Days Cup.
-
Steer Roping: As the season finals for the Wyoming Steer Ropers, this event highlights skills born on the 19th-century open range. The vast, open fields offer a unique, fence-free test of horsemanship that you won’t see in a standard arena.
-
Bronc Riding: This unique invitational features six of the region's best cowboys. Because there are no fences, the action happens right in front of the spectators, who watch the highest cumulative scorers battle for the title on Sunday and Monday.
Tradition & Tailgating
The event is as much a social gathering as a competition. Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and coolers to "tailgate" on the grass, though food vendors and spirits are available at the Club House. Once the dust settles on Sunday and Monday afternoons, the weekend wraps up with live country music and dancing.
